All the Potential Dangers of Texas Raccoon Feces - Some Are Unexpected!

Raccoons can carry diseases that can be transmitted to pets and humans. In case you have kids at home, the risk of contracting this disease is higher since they will normally play outdoors where they can be in direct contact with the excrement of the raccoons. Usually, the raccoons will defecate on the same spot that will lead to the piles of manures referred to as latrines. Having a direct contact with the feces is dangerous so be sure to equip yourself with protective gears when cleaning and decontaminating their feces.

What Are the Dangers Associated with the Raccoon Feces

In order to avoid the contamination, the feces of the Irving raccoon should immediately be removed at the most opportune time. It can lead to a more severe damage if you ignore the problem. Some of the zoonotic diseases that they carry can be fatal if not treated properly.

The Raccoon Roundworm

The excrement of the Texas raccoon contains roundworms that can be detrimental to our health. The eggs of the roundworms are extremely light that they can be airborne. This means that we can be infected by roundworms once we accidentally inhaled it. Once we ingested the roundworms, it will hatch into a larva and it will then move to the different organs inside our body. It will then lead to a serious disease in a matter of 1 week. This is a grave illness that may become lethal if not treated immediately. It can directly attack our central nervous system and may cause organ failure. There are times that it can lead to coma and blindness. Pay attention to the common symptoms of roundworm infection such as the following:

  • Loss of vision
  • Poor coordination
  • Lack of muscle control
  • Fatigue

  • Giardiasis

Giardiasis is a type of infection that is transmitted by a variety of animals such as raccoon. The raccoons will carry this infection through their droppings and can contaminate any surfaces and water that have a direct contact with their excrement. Humans can be infected by Giardiasis by accidentally inhaling the spores of their excrement. Those who are infected with the disease may experience dehydration, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and nausea.

    Leptospirosis

This is a type of bacterial infection that can be spread through the urine and droppings of the rodents such as the Texas raccoon. This can be transmitted to animals and humans. In case you have an open wound, avoid having a direct contact with their excrement. This disease can lead to liver and kidney failure if not addressed appropriately. Some of the symptoms of this disease will include:

  • Anemia
  • High fever
  • Meningitis
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Severe muscle and head ache

  • In order to stay away from the infectious diseases that the Irving raccoon may carry, you will need to discourage this creature from taking shelter on your property. Avoid feeding the raccoon and keep your place free from the things that may attract their attention. Contaminate the place where you found raccoon droppings.
